BOOMBOX: PHILIPS (MAGNAVOX)

Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. (Royal Philips Electronics N.V.), usually known as Philips, is one of the largest electronics companies in the world, founded and headquartered in the Netherlands.
The company was founded in 1891 by Gerard Philips, a maternal cousin of Karl Marx, in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Its first products were light bulbs 'and other electro technical equipment'.
Philips introduced the compact audio cassette tape in 1963 and was wildly successful.
Magnavox (Latin for "great voice") was a electronics company founded by Edwin Pridham and Peter L. Jensen. The brothers invented a moving-coil loudspeaker in 1915 and named their brainchild "Magnavox." The company was formed in 1917 under the same name in order to market the invention.
Philips acquired Magnavox's consumer electronics division in 1974.
